With its expertise in nano-electronics and nanotechnology imec’s research contributes to the enhancement of the public well-fare and well-being.
On top of that, imec operates several eco-friendly and social initiatives that add to this social involvement.
One of imec’s challenges is to limit its ecological footprint, e.g. by using renewable energy. To this end, we have an ecoteam in place continuously exploring new energy-saving measures. Imec also tries to stimulate the eco-friendly mindset of its staff by encouraging them to leave their car at home. Therefore, we pay a reasonable bicycle allowance and reimburse public transport costs. Furthermore, carpoolers benefit from reserved parking lots and every employee can borrow an imec bicycle free of charges for occasional local trips.
Imec also supports social events, e.g. by arranging a three-monthly Red Cross blood donation session in our offices. Every year, we organize a Saint Nicholas Action implying that imec offers financial support to a social initiative that benefits children.
Imec also endeavours to arouse and encourage interest in technology and science amongst our youngsters. In 2000, the Roger Van Overstraeten Society vzw (RVO-Society) was established in commemoration of imec’s founder. It is their task to continue this mission.
