De Man recognised for lifetime of achievement

15/11/2004

Professor Hugo De Man, a co-founder of Belgian research institute IMEC, received a lifetime achievement award at the European Electronics Industry Awards in Munich last week.

Organised by Electronics Weekly, the Awards were staged alongside the Electronica trade fair.
De Man has spent some 40 years focused on research in the industry, with an emphasis on EDA techniques such as simulation and, more recently, higher levels of design abstraction and digital signal processing.
In 1984, along with a group including Roger Van Overstraeten, De Man helped to found IMEC, the non-profit research group in Belgium. IMEC is now the largest independent microelectronics research organisation in Europe.
Amongst other accolades, De Man was in 1999 honoured with the Phil Kaufman Award, the highest achievement in the EDA.
